Goggles do the identifying

Yellow and blue is a start; the goggles are what make it a Minion. If you are assembling a costume from clothing you already own, the goggles are the one piece worth buying, and everything else can be improvised.

One eye or two

The characters differ in whether they have one eye or two, and children who know the films are often specific about which Minion they want to be. It is a small detail that matters to them.

Group and family costumes

Minions may be the easiest large-group costume available. Everyone wears essentially the same thing, nobody has a bad part, and it works across every age from toddler to adult without adjustment.

For families, adding one villain costume gives the group a shape without anyone having to wear something elaborate.

Comfort

Most Minion costumes are separates or a simple overall, which makes them among the cooler options in this range for a warm evening. Padded barrel-shaped versions look more accurate and hold considerably more heat.

Beyond the event

Denim overalls and a yellow top go straight back into everyday wear, which makes this one of the few costumes with a genuine second life.
