What these are
Everything in this range is a dress-up prop — moulded plastic and foam, obviously costume in construction and finish. They complete a look and photograph well.
The right prop finishes a character
Certain characters are barely recognisable without their prop. A wizard needs a wand or staff, a pirate needs a cutlass, a superhero needs their signature item. The prop is often what makes the difference between a good costume and an obvious one.
Scale matters
Props sized for adults look comically oversized on a child and are tiring to carry for more than a few minutes. Check the listed length against the height of the person wearing the costume — a staff taller than the child holding it does not work in practice, however good it looks on the page.
Event rules
Many schools have policies about props at dress-up days, and some venues do too. Worth a quick check before the day, because a prop that has to be left at the office undermines the costume.
Foam and plastic over time
Foam props compress and crease if stored under weight, and painted finishes chip at the edges with use. Storing them loose rather than at the bottom of a box keeps them looking right for more than one season.
