What licensed actually means

A licensed costume is produced under agreement with the studio or rights holder. In practice that means the colours, logos, proportions and detailing match the character as it appears on screen, rather than approximating it.

For children, that difference matters more than it does to adults. Kids know their characters in fine detail, and an almost-right costume is noticed immediately.

Choosing between versions

Popular characters appear in several forms — different films, different eras, different suits. A child who has watched one version specifically will usually want that one. It is worth asking which before ordering, because the answer is rarely "any of them".

Included pieces

Licensed sets vary in what comes in the packet. Some include the mask, cape and accessories; others are the suit alone. The product page lists exactly what is included, and the accessories that complete a look are stocked separately if you need to add them.

Sizing

Licensed costumes follow the manufacturer's own size chart, not standard clothing sizes. Muscle-detail suits in particular can run close-fitting by design. Check the listed measurements, and size up if you are between.

Caring for them

Most licensed costumes use printed, heat-pressed or glued detailing that will not survive a machine wash. Gentle cold hand-washing and air drying keeps the print intact. Check the care label, because the trim is usually the fragile part rather than the fabric.
