Dinosaur or human

The range splits neatly. Dinosaur costumes — inflatable, padded or hooded — are the showstoppers and get the reaction. Ranger and character outfits are the comfortable, practical option that can be worn all day.

For a group, mixing both gives the theme a structure that a room full of dinosaurs does not.

Inflatable dinosaur suits

These run on a small battery-powered fan that keeps the suit inflated the whole time it is worn. That means batteries need checking before the event, and the fan noise is constant, which some younger children dislike.

They also make the wearer very wide. Doorways, car seats and crowded rooms all become a consideration, and sitting down is largely off the table.

Padded and hooded dinosaurs

Padded suits and hooded dinosaur tops give a similar effect with no fan, far less bulk and much more freedom to move. For children under about seven, these are usually the better experience.

Ranger and character outfits

Khaki ranger gear with the right badges and accessories is comfortable, cool and instantly readable within the theme. It also survives a whole day at a school event in a way a dinosaur suit does not.

Comfort

Every full dinosaur suit is warm. For an outdoor spring event, plan on the suit coming off for part of the day.
