Classic or modern

Batgirl's colour palette has shifted considerably across her different incarnations. The classic look is purple with yellow trim; the more recent designs sit closer to Batman's black and yellow. Both are recognisable, but they read as different characters at a glance.

The hair matters

Batgirl is one of the characters where the wig does as much work as the costume. The red hair is a defining feature, and a costume worn without it often reads as a generic caped hero rather than the character specifically.

Wigs are stocked separately if the set you choose does not include one.

Comfort over a long event

Bodysuit-style costumes are warm, which matters more at an Australian Halloween than a northern one. Separates — a top, leggings and a cape — breathe better and let a layer come off partway through the evening.

Group costumes

Batgirl works within any DC group and is a natural pairing with Batman for a parent and child costume. Alongside Catwoman and Harley she also makes an easy all-women group theme without needing a fourth idea.

Finishing the look

The cape, the mask and the belt are the three pieces that make it read correctly. Boots or boot covers complete it if you want the full silhouette.
