A family theme in the literal sense

This is one of very few properties where every family member has an obvious, distinct and equally good part. Parents get Gomez and Morticia, children get Wednesday and Pugsley, and the whole thing holds together without anyone improvising.

Wednesday

The black dress with a white collar and twin plaits is one of the most recognisable costumes there is, and among the simplest. The collar and the plaits do all the work — everything else is plain black.

It is also unusually comfortable: no padding, no mask, nothing over the head, and it suits a school event as readily as a party.

Morticia and Gomez

Morticia is the long black gown with straight black hair — the wig is essential rather than optional. Gomez is the pinstriped suit with slicked hair and a thin moustache, which makes him one of the easiest adult costumes to assemble from a wardrobe.

Suitability

The Addams Family sits at the gothic rather than frightening end of the spooky range, which makes it a comfortable choice for mixed-age events and younger trick-or-treating groups.

Makeup

Pale foundation and darkened eyes take these costumes from good to complete. It is a light-touch makeup look rather than a full face, and it wears comfortably for a whole evening.
