Classic brightness or modern depth
The two main looks differ mostly in tone. The classic costume is a vivid primary blue with a bright red cape and yellow belt. The modern film version is a deeper, more muted blue with a darker red and textured detailing.
Younger children generally gravitate to the bright classic version, which also photographs better under party lighting.
The cape
Superman's cape attaches at the shoulders rather than the neck on most designs, which sits better and stays put through a party. As with any cape, length is the variable that matters most for an active child — mid-calf outlasts full-length every time.
Muscle chest or flat
Padded muscle-chest suits give the heroic outline and are warmer to wear. Flat printed versions are cooler and more comfortable for a long day, particularly for a school event in warm weather.
Padded versions also run smaller through the chest than the age label suggests, so check the measurements.
Book Week
Superman originated in comics, which many schools count. Worth checking your school's guidance, as policies on comic characters differ.
Group costumes
Superman anchors a DC group alongside Batman, Wonder Woman and the wider range, and works well as a parent-and-child pairing where both wear the same emblem.
