Single-purpose or multi-station

A single-purpose piece does one thing well and asks little of your yard. A swing frame, a slide, a climbing dome — simple, quick to install, and easy to place in an awkward corner.

Multi-station play centres combine several activities around a central tower or deck. They take longer to build, but they hold a child's attention for far longer because there is somewhere to go next. If you have more than one child, or a wide age gap between them, the multi-station option usually gets more use per square metre.

The case for modular

Modular systems start as a basic tower and accept additions later — an extra swing arm, a rock wall, monkey bars, a second slide. The advantage is that the structure grows with the children rather than being outgrown.

The catch is compatibility. Additions are designed around a specific brand's post dimensions and bracket pattern, so decide early whether you want to expand and buy into a system that allows it.

Ground preparation

Level ground does more for how a structure feels than almost anything else. A tower on a slope racks slightly under load and never sits quite right. If your yard falls away, levelling the footprint first is time well spent.

Grass works underneath. Softfall bark or rubber matting looks tidier, keeps the area from turning to mud in winter, and stops the ground wearing bare at the base of a slide.

Home use

Everything in this range is intended for domestic backyards rather than schools, childcare centres or public parks, which use a different class of equipment altogether.
